RS Sponsored Moot Team Performs Well in Toronto

Congratulations to the University of Saskatchewan College of Law’s Securities Moot Team with coach Michael Wright for their fine showing at the Davies’ Annual Corporate/Securities Law Moot held March 6 and 7 in Toronto.

Considered the leading event of its kind in Canada, the Davies’ Moot provides an opportunity for top students from Canadian law schools to debate current legal issues in corporate securities law with senior practitioners from Toronto law firms and corporations, regulators from the Ontario Securities Commission and judges from several courts.

There were twelve law schools from across Canada competing at the Moot with the University of Saskatchewan team placing fourth overall.  The students were tested on their written advocacy (presented in a factum delivered prior to the competition) and their oral advocacy.  The top factum prize was awarded to the University of Toronto team, with Western University taking second, and the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Ottawa tying for third.  The U of S team had three oralists in the top fifteen, including one in the top four.
