Prairie Hospice Celebrates Volunteers with Butterfly Release

Prairie Hospice Society, a charitable, non-profit community organization, works to ensure access to compassionate, community-based end-of-life support in Saskatoon.

Its goal is to enhance the quality of life at the end of life, wherever people call home. Each year Robertson Stromberg sponsors their Volunteer Appreciation Evening.

This year, Prairie Hospice polled its volunteers and asked them how they would like to be celebrated. It was a resounding wish to celebrate together after a couple of difficult years with COVID-19 restrictions in place. As soon as restrictions were lifted and gathering permitted again, volunteers started planning.

Wanting it to be unique, they conducted a community butterfly release in June.

“Our volunteers continue to give much of their time to support those facing their end-of-life journey. Each year I am amazed at the hours they give.”

Kristi Chisholm
Executive Director, Prairie Hospice

Kristi Chisholm, Executive Director of Prairie Hospice, says, “Our volunteers continue to give much of their time to support those facing their end-of-life journey. Each year I am amazed at the hours they give. We have exceeded 4,000 hours in the last year alone.” Chisholm adds, “This is through visits, rides and respite. In the last couple of years, they’ve also done grocery shopping and made deliveries to those who couldn’t leave their homes.”

With our continued financial support, Prairie Hospice looks forward to planning a celebration gathering for their volunteers again next year.
