Curtis P. Clavelle

An associate at Robertson Stromberg, Curtis focuses primarily in the areas of family law, municipal law, and real estate/real property law. Curtis is a collaboratively trained and certified lawyer skilled in resolving disputes outside of the courtroom.  He takes a pragmatic, no-nonsense approach to resolve disputes as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.

Curtis has represented clients in the Court of Appeal, Court of Queen’s Bench, Provincial Court, and various boards and tribunals.

In family law, Curtis has experience in resolving disputes involving custody and access, child and spousal support, and property division. He is also skilled in drafting pre- and post-nuptial agreements and cohabitation agreements. Curtis is experienced in drafting fertility and reproductive agreements for parents and donors, such as ova donation agreements, sperm donation agreements, and surrogate agreements.

In municipal law, Curtis has experience in planning, regulatory and bylaw work.

Curtis routinely assists clients in navigating real estate purchases and ensures the process is as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Curtis completed his Juris Doctor of Law with Great Distinction at the University of Saskatchewan in 2018. He also holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Great Distinction from the University of Saskatchewan (B.Comm. 2015).

Over the course of his law school career, Curtis earned numerous awards, some of which include the Goldenberg Prize in Taxation for the highest academic achievement in the Tax I course, the W.G. Morrow-R.C. Carter Prize in Indian and Aboriginal Law for the highest academic achievement in the Aboriginal Law course, and the Brad Berg and Brian Rolfes LGBT Rights Scholarship.

Curtis volunteers with CLASSIC (Community Legal Assistance Services for Saskatoon Inner City Inc.) and Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan to offer free legal advice to residents with low incomes who do not qualify for Legal Aid.

He volunteers with the College of Law to provide mentorship to students participating in moot programs, which are opportunities for students to engage in negotiation competitions with colleagues from other schools.

Curtis sits on the Sexual and Gender Diversity Alliance of the Canadian Bar Association and works to organize continuing professional development opportunities for lawyers. Curtis also engages in advocacy work in this role.

He has spoken at numerous conventions and workshops over the years, including the Saskatoon Public Schools convention, Saskatchewan Regional Parks Association conventions, and the PATHS (Provincial Association of Transition Housing and Services of Saskatchewan) convention.

Curtis served on the Board of Directors of OUTSaskatoon for three years. OUTSaskatoon offers support and education services for the community and works to make Saskatchewan a more inclusive place for all to live, particularly members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community.

Curtis served as the President of Usask OUTlaws for two years during law school, during which time he organized activities to increase student body activity in the LGBTQ community.

  • Arbutus Properties Ltd. v. City of Saskatoon – this case pertains to the lifting of holding provisions in Zoning Bylaws, which prevent the development of land.  Successfully appealed the City of Saskatoon’s refusal to lift a holding symbol to permit an affordable housing project to proceed.
